Nikkei Ryutsu (Nikkei Marketing Journal), September 6, 1994 "COME EXPERIENCE ART IN A FUN AND RELAXING SETTING" Aozora Art invites you to take part in its latest performance on a family theme. The organizers are Rica Takashima, a 28-year-old illustrator, and her fellow artists. The artists invite everyone on the street to come stand behind a cutout board of humans and animals of actual size with a hole where their faces can show through. They stand behind the board and one of the artists gladly take a commemorative photo. The theme here is "family." Yes, the board is just like what you normally find at any given tourist attraction, except there are over 30 boards to chose from, ranging from typical family constituents like father, grand parents and children, to a not so typical mermaid, angle, dog and cat. Participants will pick one character and form a virtual family for a photo shoot. Rica Takashima worked on all the cutout boards. On the first Day, here approximately 20 couples and families took part in this fun filled event. "This is a fairly unstructured event where everyone is welcome to enjoy in his or her own way. People tend to try out a type of family they never had in their real lives. For example, someone discovered how wonderful it would be to have a really large family. It is a great opportunity for us to share art with those who do not identify themselves as art lovers," says Ai Bito, a 25-year-old Aozora artist. Aozora Art opens every Sunday afternoon between 1:30-5 pm, through September 25. Free event. |
